I wish to congratulate Ashleigh for this great piece of work and for gracing the front cover of this edition of our competition, now in its 21st year. Ashleigh is her the overall winner of this competition and her prize includes a bursary from AAA School of Advertising.
The highly commended artwork by
another Jeppe pupil, Andrea Brits-Hide, continues on the theme of social media and its destructive nature. The artwork from yet another Grade 11 Jeppe star, Lydia Nsenda-Chrispin, took our breath away. Her work graces the backpage of this edition.
Over 30 schools entered the competition and we received more than 8 000 entries. We value each of the entries and congratulate all who participated.
Till next year, enjoy this edition!
A highlight of events that I attend as an
editor is my interaction with school children which happens annually through the Design-an-Ad and High School Quiz events.
For a number of years I have been invited to be on the judging panel of Design-an-Ad and every time the entries go up, I marvel at the talent of our young artists as shown through the advertisements and posters they
create for this popular competition.
Design-an-Ad has now been running for
21 years and it is interesting to see how the content has changed from a poster with coloured pencils winning in an early year to this year’s winning designs that represent the influence of social media - not a pencil in sight!
Jeppe High School for Girls has participated in each of the Star Design-an-Ad competitions since 2012. “This is the fifth year that our design students have scooped awards in this prestigious event “says Miss Gonçalves, Headmistress of Jeppe High School for Girls”, and we are extremely proud of their achievements. We look forward to receiving the Design-an-Ad supplement as a memento of the girls outstanding efforts.”
- Carole Heming, Public Relations, Jeppe High School for Girls
It was the first time that our school had taken part in The Star Design-an-Ad competition, so when we found out that one of our learners won the competition, we were so excited and that made it a truly special experience.
Our school will definitely be entering in the competition again in the new year, and hopefully, after seeing that the winner could be one of them, the learners will be even more excited.
